FAQs

Q: Are bibi products Bisphenol A free?
A: All bibi soothers, teats, glass bottles, disposable bottles, PA bottles, weaning bowls and accessories are free of Bisphenol A. The bottle range offers a Bisphenol A free plastic alternative made of Polyamine (PA).

Q: Can soothers be harmful for my baby?
A: 75%-95% of all babies satisfy their sucking needs with soothers or fingers. While sucking of any kind for long periods of time can lead to malfunction of the jaws and gums. Research suggests that orthodontic soothers such as bibi dental shape promote muscular activity and thus have good effect on the healthy development of children's teeth. Soothers promote the production of saliva. Saliva contains a high percentage of calcium, phosphates and fluorides. Three important elements in building up dental enamel. Saliva is the natural enemy of cavities. Recently doctors have recommenced the use of soothers when baby is asleep as it reduces the risk of Infant Cot Death

Q: Can bibi baby bottles and teats be cleaned in a dish washer?
A: Yes, all bibi bottles can be cleaned in a dish washer. In addition, we recommend sterilizing all parts by boiling for 5 minutes from time to time or in the bibi microwave sterilizer.

Q: Why do the bibi teats have a valve?
A: When the baby drinks a vacuum is created in the bottle. In order to prevent babies from having to suck harder and swallow air, every teat is equipped with a valve which allows air flow and equalizes the vacuum in the bottle. The valve thus prevents the baby from swallowing too much air and offers more comfort.

Q: How often should I replace the bottle teats?
A: Teats made from silicone have an above-average resistance to ageing. For hygiene reasons, however, we recommend replacing teats after 2 months of regular use.

Q: Can prolonged sucking on the baby bottle lead to cavities?
A: With prolonged sucking the teeth are constantly immersed in liquid. Carbohydrate food remains in combination with saliva can create sugar even with sugarless drinks. Bottles should only be given under supervision and for food intake (not as soother or toy). Instead of the bottle use a soother to pacify your baby.

Q: Is the paint used on printed bibi soothers and baby bottles dangerous or possibly toxic?
A: No, on the contrary bibi only uses food colouring which is perfectly harmless for children even if scratched off by little teeth.

Q: Why are there two holes in the bibi soother disc?
A: The two holes in the disc ensure your child's safety. Should a child inadvertently put the whole soother into his or her mouth, which is virtually impossible, it can still breathe, as the holes ensure a constant air flow, Please note: do NOT use the holes to attach a string to the soother since this would block the air flow in critical situations.

Q: Can my baby swallow the soother?
A: No, the form of the soother disc was specially developed according to EN 1400 in order to prevent swallowing. Do not worry if your baby takes the entire soother in his or her mouth, and carefully take it out of the baby's mouth. There is absolutely no risk of suffocation because the soother disc features air holes that allow the baby to breath even is such critical situations.

Q: How often Should a soothers be replaced
A: Check the soother before every use especially if your child has teeth already. Pull the tip in all directions. Discard if signs of damage or defects are visible. For hygiene and safety reasons we recommend replacing the soother after 1-2 months.

Q: Is the use of soother holders dangerous?
A: No, on the contrary. All bibi soother holders are designed and tested according to the European standard 12586 in order to prevent any safety risk for your child. With proper application the soother holder is very helpful: it protects the soother from getting dirty and thus ensures additional hygiene. However, a soother holder should only be used the daytime and with supervision. We highly recommend to only use EN standard tested soother holders. Self-made (mostly too long) soother holders can be extremely dangerous and could cause strangulation.

Q: When should a child stop using a soother?
A: There is no strict rule for that. Most children should stop using a soother before their 3rd birthday. Only 1% of children continues until the age of 5. In case your baby does not want to stop using a soother by herself, we recommend to reduce it gradually until the 36th month of life.
